Our guiding principles
Flexibility sits at the heart of our work at Shared Mile. We integrate a wide ranges of therapeutic theories into our work. Everything is grounded in the safe, confidential ethical guidelines of trusted industry bodies like the CPCAB, BACP and NCPS.
Working where you are. Perhaps you want specific, focused help for a particular issue - we’ll work with you to develop a plan. Or maybe your concerns are more general - we’ll spend the time listening, empathising (but never patronising) and explore the things that led you here. You’re an active player in the way we work.
Partnership. Therapy can be transformative, but it won’t transform anything unless you’re comfortable. See therapy in a new light - as a partner and guide, not a last resort.
How it works
Listening without judgement - Your story matters. At Shared Mile, we never judge. The first step is to learn who you are - respectfully. We’re not the expert on your life, you are.
Building rapport - Good therapy is based on absolute trust. When you feel that alignment, things begin to shift.
Generating hope - As we work together, we’ll find ways forward. It may take weeks, it may take years. We’ll walk those miles with you. Literally, if that’s how you want to work.
Who are we for?
Therapists often provide a long list of common mental health conditions they work with. That’s not always helpful if you don’t have a diagnosis, want to avoid being pigeonholed, or aren’t sure exactly what you need. So, how about this? Our focus is the experience of being human.
That said, Shared Mile doesn’t currently offer relationship therapy for couples. We may not be the right choice if you’re extremely unwell and require more urgent help. And we cannot work with children or young people under 18, who require the support of specialists.
Costs and logistics
We are based in our exclusive, private therapy space in Clifton, Bristol. The office has parking for clients who need it. We can also work remotely via video call. Our therapy is agnostic on the format - we can discuss this during our initial chat.
After an initial session (online or in person), we can discuss alternative venues if you prefer - walk and talk, cafe, gym - whatever works. Therapy must fit your life, lifestyle and preferences to be effective.
Our costs are as follows:
30 minute introductory session - Free
Per 50 minute session charge - £125
8 session block - £800
Our work is open-ended. You choose how many sessions you require - it’s very personal and will vary enormously. It may also change as we progress, which is how it should be.
